The first home to receive the Historic Home Recognition Award in April
of 2006 was the Judge Dale House located on Guthrie's west side. This
Neo-classical house was built in 1902 by Judge Frank Dale, with J.H.
in 1893 he was appointed to the Territorial Supreme Court. In September
of 1893 he was appointed as Chief Justice of the court and served until
March 1, 1898.
In 1939 after the death of Mrs. Dale, the house was rented to J.G. Adams,
president of the Cimarron Valley Hospital. In 1943 the house under new
ownership was divided into apartments.
The current owners, Gene and Rene Spineto and Kathy and Don Phinney
purchased the house in 1992 and are restoring it to its original splendor.
The Judge Dale House sits on a terraced lawn above the street, and was
considered the gem of its day in Guthrie. It boasted a ballroom on the top
floor as well as a drawing room and dining room on the lower floor. The
finest decorative wood working and embellishments of the day could
be seen throughout the house.
